An Unforgettable Trip Made Possible by International Cooperation among Serrans
When a group of Basilian seminarians recently went on retreat in Mexico, several Serra Clubs came together and offered the men a wonderful retreat experience while also witnessing to the beauty of how well Serra supports vocations. Malena Dosal, Serra International trustee for Mexico and Centro America, first heard from Margo Geddie of Serra Houston, who wondered if Malena could help Fr. Eduardo Rivera, a Basilian priest and Serra chaplain, who was bringing seminarians from Canada, United States, Mexico, and Colombia, on a retreat in Tlaxcala, Mexico. After reaching out to Brother Jose, who would be in charge of logistics for the group, Malena found out it would be a retreat for 35 men, including a bishop, some priests, and the seminarians. The group needed help with a coffee break for the week as well as a tour around the town. Brother Jose was also interested in having Mass at the Basilica de Guadalupe in Mexico City. After Malena reached out to the president of Serra Tlaxcala, Serrans Lucrecia and Antonio contacted the tourism secretary to guide the group around town. Serrans also paid for the bus and sponsored the coffee break. In addition to the coffee and tour, the group was able to have Mass at the basilica in Mexico City, celebrated by the Basilian bishop. After the retreat, Brother Jose sent a thank you note to Malena. “The meeting we have had here in Tlaxcala has been very nourishing,” he said. “Your support really helped us a lot. I thank God for people like you who support us to continue this path to the priesthood. You will be in my prayers and I hope you can accompany me in my upcoming ordination.” Thank you Malena for your hard work and to members of Serra Tlaxcala who answered the call to support these priests and seminarians!
