Past President Kurt Metyko addressed events of the last year at the New Orleans Convention.
Past Serra International President Kurt Metyko’s address at the Serra International Convention provided a comprehensive overview of the Serra’s achievements this past year, challenges, and future directions.
Kurt began by describing a recent visit to the War Museum during the trip to New Orleans. The experience of touring the Boeing and World War II submarine exhibits was not only nostalgic but also a metaphor for the journey of leadership and dedication. Kurt, who has been with Serra for 56 years, shared a poignant moment of connection with his past through the submarine’s helm, reflecting on the enduring commitment to the organization.
With over 500 new members joining Serra International this year, the organization is experiencing notable growth. Serra’s expansion into new countries and enhanced international communication efforts underscore a broader global presence. Central to these advancements is Serra Connect, a new initiative designed to improve global communication and support for vocations. The platform, which offers multiple language options, aims to connect Serrans worldwide more effectively.
In addition to technological advancements, Kurt emphasized the strengthened relationship between Serra and the clergy.
Another of the significant changes highlighted was the transition to a new communications strategy. After evaluating several options, the board selected Vianney Vocations to handle the Serra magazine and website design. The revamped website, managed by Club Express, has also received positive feedback. The new platform offers a host of features, including hosting club websites and integration with Google Translate, fostering a more connected Serra community.
Despite the successes, Kurt acknowledged challenges faced during the year.
Notably, efforts to establish Serra in Germany faced significant obstacles due to the country’s already well-established vocations organizations.
The year saw meaningful international engagements, including a Symposium on Vocations and a series of events in Brazil and Mexico. These activities highlight Serra’s ongoing commitment to expanding its global footprint and fostering international collaboration.
With a solid strategic plan, enhanced communication tools, and a strengthened global presence, Serra International is poised for continued success.
The year’s achievements reflect a collective effort and dedication to the mission of supporting and promoting vocations across the world. Thank you Serrans!
We remains optimistic about the future, confident in the foundation laid this year and eager to build on this momentum in the years to come.
