Long-time Serrans Dan and Lynn Jones of Portland, Oregon, created an endowment in their names.
“As a family, we are committed to Serra and find some of our best friends to be priests, sisters, and Serrans who we have met through the years,” Dan shared.
Their commitment to Serra is evident though their admirable leadership and service. Dan became a Serran in 1980 at the invitation of his then co-chair of the new church building committee at St. Pius X Parish. Dan is the ultimate Serran leader. At the local level, he served the Portland Club as VP of Vocations, VP of Membership, VP of Programs and as President twice.
For the US Council, Dan served as District Governor and Regional Director before moving on to become Vocations Committee chair and member, Executive Committee member for five years and President of the Council.
Dan was President of Serra International, after serving as Trustee on SI board, VP of Communications, and as an Executive Committee Member.
And, now, Dan is a Trustee on the Foundation board. The experience and vision he brings to the board, coupled with a heart for vocations, provides invaluable wisdom and guidance to the Foundation Board of Trustees.
Dan and Lynn have both provided leadership to the Mount Angel Abbey and Seminary. Seminary board, Dan has served on the Seminary Board for the past three four years and Lynn has served on the Abbey Foundation Board (AFO) for the past 18 years. Lynn also served on the AFO Executive Committee, including a term as the first female President.
Dan was a founding partner in the Therapeutic Associates practice, where his two sons are partners today. His career as a physical therapist spanned from 1962 to 1999.
Dan and his first wife, JoAnn, raised four children. Shortly after he retired in 1999, she died in a car accident. Four years later he married Lynn, his first wife’s cousin, and she has since taken on the Serra leadership mantle as the club’s website master, past VP of Communications and newsletter editor for 17 years.
The Dan and Lynn Jones Endowment will support vocation grants beginning this year and into the future. Dan said this about his gift: “This is for my wives (JoAnn and Lynn) but mainly because I love the Eucharist and I want the Eucharist for my kids and future generations.”
